Today we bring another unreleased episode from the archive to show you how to charge a phone that is too flat to charge.
The basic idea of this is to charge the battery of one phone using another phone. So there are a few assumptions we must take into account here:
These assumptions give us a much higher chance of not blowing stuff up.
That last bullet is interesting. A significant number of cellphone batteries on the market have 3 pins. 2 are rare. 4, 5 and 6 pins are also very common. You need to make sure that the pins you are connecting up have equivalent functionality. I specifically eliminated the first phone I wanted to use because it had 5 pins instead of 3, and I didn't know what each pin did.
This should go without saying: It's really important to get the leads connected up the right way.
Notice in the closeup of the connections on the battery, I have put the connection on the yellow paper clip at the opposite end from the red and brown clips. This is to reduce the chance of the contacts shorting out.
The convention I used here was, red for positive, brown for negative, and yellow for the remaining pin.
I made the connectors out of coated paper clips by stripping off one end, and one part of the side. The end if the part that touched the contacts of the battery. The side is where the wires are soldered onto. The shape of the clip was a shape that I found worked well in holding the paper clip to the batter.
